Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Taking A Whole Trip Sober After Bullying Accusations And Loss Of Partnerships

I think it would probably be fair to say that supermodel / mogul / Lip Sync Battle co-host Chrissy Teigen has not quite had the 2021 that she was hoping for. After taking a much talked-about break from social media in late March, she was back online the following month, but it wasn't long before word of bullying allegations levied against her spread. The month of June then turned into an even bigger mess with regards to the claims, leading Teigen to drop out of a couple of a couple of high profile projects and to her losing out on several major partnerships. Now, Teigen has opened up about taking a trip sober, after those accusations and the loss of partnerships.

Few of us could have guessed that Chrissy Teigen, who'd long been known as a positive presence on Twitter and other social media platforms, would have been accused of online bullying, but that's exactly what happened when Couples Therapy and Celebrity Big Brother star Courtney Stodden claimed that the popular star directed several troubling messages at her as far back as 2011. Teigen soon found herself apologizing, which actually didn't appear to help the situation much, and missing out on several job opportunities.

Teigen and her ever-supportive husband, music superstar and The Voice coach John Legend, were recently invited to a fancy event put on by Unicef Italia, and she took to Instagram to show off their looks for the evening, as well as talk about what it was like to attend such a far-flung shindig while sober. While thanking everyone involved who helped to make their trip and night out a possibility, Teigen said, in part:

we haven’t done something like this for soooo long, it made us feel young again!...THANK YOU @alanavanderaa @hairinel @novakaplan for making me feel like the luigi’s mansion character i deserved. but really thanks for making me feel so pretty and helping me along in my quest to have my first sober Italian getaway. I hate the word sober by the way, it’s so rehab/medical. Anyhow honestly it was so so trippy being sober at something you typically would have been wasted at....we had so much fun. I didn’t do anything I’d regret and I’m glad I’ll get to remember it all!!

As you can see from Chrissy Teigen's caption, she and John Legend haven't been able to take lovely trips abroad for events like this in quite some time. While much of that is likely just due to the pandemic, I suspect that some invites in the past few months probably had to be rejected because of the nature of the bullying scandal. Teigen pulled out of recording a voiceover in the Netflix hit Never Have I Ever, and left a joint business she'd only just launched with Kris Jenner.

She also saw her cookware line pulled from Target and Macy's, and supposedly lost out on a Bloomingdale's contract because of the claims, despite taking full responsibility and apologizing.

Her post also indicates something which will probably surprise many fans, as she noted that this trip to Italy was Teigen's "first sober Italian getaway," in spite of the fact that she must have visited the country several times during her many years as a model. Even though the multi-hyphenate has spoken about her drinking before, and admitted to maybe drinking a bit during a Celebrity Family Feud taping that led to her chipping a tooth during the game play, it would seem that she's once again reconsidering the particulars of when and how much she drinks, at least on occasion.

It's possible that, with everything Chrissy Teigen went through personally and professionally this summer, she's decided to take a look at her drinking and step back so that it doesn't cause additional potential problems in the future. It sounds like she's already having some better experiences because of the move, and that's exactly what one would hope for.
