It has been years since we last saw Pedro Pascal’s galactic bounty hunter and his adoptive son, Grogu (widely known as Baby Yoda)... in their own TV show, at least. Luckily, the wait is almost over for the return of Jon Favreau’s Emmy-winning  sci-fi/western series from the world of the Star Wars movies. See for yourself in our following breakdown of all the most essential things to know about The Mandalorian Season 3 – starting with when it will be available to stream on Disney+.

Shortly after the December 2020 release of the bittersweet Mandalorian Season 2 finale (which also featured one explosive cameo by Mark Hamill as a post-Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker), showrunner Jon Favreau confirmed that another season was in pre-production. Of course, this would immediately propel many questions about The Mandalorian Season 3, such as whether or not we have seen the last of Baby Yoda, if the series’ main story will continue or be replaced with Boba Fett’s next set of adventures, and, especially, when Chapter 17 will hit Disney+? Since then, each of those questions have been met with answers, including that – according to the series’ official Twitter account – the new season is part of the 2023 TV show schedule and will hit the streaming platform on March 1st of that year.

The Trailer Teases Mando’s Plea For Forgiveness, A Brewing Conflict, And More

In an episode of The Book of Boba Fett told purely from Din Djarin’s perspective, he is stripped of his Mandalorian title after confessing to removing his helmet in front of living witnesses to the Armorer, who tells him bathing in the waters of Mandalore’s mines is his only way of redemption. It appears that our eponymous hero is seeking to reclaim his title in The Mandalorian Season 3, as you can see by watching the official trailer below:

The teaser also implies that a new conflict is emerging that will lead Mando to join forces with other helmeted harbingers of justice. We also get to see Grogu set his Jedi abilities into attack mode against a strange enemy. It seems like The Mandalorian Season 3 is kicking things up a notch in terms of action, and we could not be more excited for that.

Pedro Pascal Will Return To The Title Role Of The Mandalorian In Season 3

Despite his aforementioned commitment to the role of hardened zombie apocalypse survivor Joel on HBO’s The Last of Us, we can also say that we have still not seen the last of Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin. In fact, the former Game of Thrones cast member is the only actor confirmed to appear on the Mandalorian Season 3 cast, with no word on if fan favorites like Emmy nominee Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth, recurring star Carl Weathers as Green Karga, or comic relief Amy Sedaris could appear - not to mention the hope some still have for return of Baby Yoda. While we can be sure that Gina Carano will not be returning as Cara Dune, we can more confidently infer that Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze and Giancarlo Esposito as the ruthless Moff Gideon will have crucial roles on the new season.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Cast Includes Returning Favorites And Exciting Newcomers

In early 2022, Pedro Pascal teased that The Mandalorian Season 3 cast would include “some familiar faces” and “a lot of new faces,” when speaking to Neelix (via ScreenRant). Among the familiar faces confirmed to appear (according to Variety) are Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, and Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze.

Also returning are Emily Swallow (who confirmed a larger presence for The Armorer to ScreenRant), Omid Abtahi (who told The Rae Side that Season 3 is “unlike anything before”), and Amy Sedaris (whose reprisal of mechanic Peli Motto was confirmed in stills released by Lucasfilm). One of the most exciting new faces making a guest appearance is Christopher Lloyd of Back to the Future fame, along with former SNL star Tim Meadows, who – according to ComicBook.com – is reportedly set to appear in an undisclosed role as well. For some, however, the most exciting addition to Season 3, per another ComicBook.com report, is Rise of Skywalker scene-stealer Babu Frik, who was originally portrayed in the 2019 film by Shirley Henderson.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Wrapped Production In 2022

Despite receiving the greenlight pretty quickly, it took a little bit of time for the cameras to start rolling on The Mandalorian Season 3, which – according to Movie Web – began  principal photography in October 2021. Shooting wrapped the following March – which star Carl Weathers confirmed with his repost of a tweet by Star Wars Stuff – and, during that time, star Pedro Pascal was also busy working on HBO’s series adaptation of the hit video game, The Last of Us. Luckily, it did not keep him from reprising what is, arguably, his most famous role.

Another Mandalorian Spin-Off Will Debut In 2023

The Mandalorian Season 2 featured a few fan-favorite Star Wars characters – one of which was given his own spin-off series in the form of The Book of Boba Fett and another whose spin-off series has yet to premiere. Ahsoka Tano will be played again by Rosario Dawson in her own self-titled spin-off. Currently, Ahsoka has no set Disney+ premiere date, but has been confirmed to be available some time in 2023 with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni executive producing.

The Mandalorian Season 4 Is Already Being Written

While Star Wars fans often get into heated debates over which of the movies is the best or the quality of some of the Disney+ TV shows so far, one thing most of the fandom seems to agree on is that they cannot get enough of The Mandalorian. Well, it is a good thing that the show is already set to continue past Season 3. In an interview with CinemaBlend at the Star Wars Celebration in 2022, creator Jon Favreau dropped a hint that he was already in the process of writing The Mandalorian Season 4.

Now that we have gone through everything that we know about one of the most highly anticipated upcoming Star Wars projects, all we can do now is wait as patiently as possible. That is the way.
