The Witcher Season 2: Henry Cavill Reveals First Geralt Footage, And It's Hypnotizing

As all of us fans are well aware, The Witcher Season 2 has been on a very long road to get to us. The show began to film the new set of episodes right before a certain health crisis took over the world, and it ended up being in some stage of production or production shut down for basically a full year, before finally wrapping filming a few months ago. Now, star Henry Cavill has released the first footage of himself in Season 2, and it's guaranteed to hypnotize fans everywhere!

While we've heard quite a bit about what's to come in Season 2 of The Witcher, the Netflix hit has only released a tiny snippet of footage so far, and that was totally centered on young Ciri. Now, Henry Cavill, who plays traveling monster-hunter Geralt on the fantasy hit, has given fans yet another bit of footage, and this one focuses more clearly on his character and what he'll be doing this time around. Though, be warned, it is fairly fast-paced and nearly guaranteed to put you into a Continent-focused trance. Take a look at the video he posted to Instagram:

OOOOhhhhhhhHHH!! Have you recovered yet? OK, OK, I know that this is likely a maddening video for some of you, as the individual elements fly by so fast that it can be hard to completely tell what you're looking at. But, what else were you planning to do with your weekend before this clip dropped and you realized that you needed to now spend most of the next two and a half days playing it on a loop and pausing so that you can figure out what's going on? That's right, nothing. Thanks, Henry!

Alright, let's just remember the basics of what we know about The Witcher Season 2 so far and see if we can't put some of these puzzle pieces together. While there will, almost definitely, be a lot more monsters of the not so human and basically human kind around in Season 2 for Geralt to slay, one of the main focuses will be on the former loner taking exiled princess Ciri to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen to train her. It's impossible to tell where Geralt is in the clip, or where any of the action takes place, actually, but at least we can tell that it's probably going to be a weird mess of bloody, creepy fun which, luckily, happens in one timeline.

The only dialogue I noticed in the video (How many times have I watched it? Who can say at this point. But, I do know that it seems to be imprinting on my brain, which should make the next few days intriguing, if nothing else.) are "Are you ready?", someone saying "salvation," and what I think is Geralt yelling, "Run!" There's also singing (Hi, Jaskier!) and screaming (Hello, everyone else!), so this totally fits with what we've come to expect from The Witcher so far.

We also get bits of a lot of good, old fashioned Geralt sword play, someone in heavy chains (I think it's Yennefer), what appear to be a lot of the medallions for other Witchers hanging around (Are they all dead?!), a skeleton, and a whole host of currently still mysterious happenings. Possibly most importantly, though, there are words sprinkled throughout the clip. If this Rednanian Intelligence guide to language in The Witcher is accurate, it seems that the words are all written in Elder Speech, which is largely still used by the elves of The Continent.

I didn't see any quick translations of the words we were given in the clip, so I'm just going to stop staring at it before I can fully understand it and speak to my mom in elf when she calls me tonight. But! I'm sure there are some fans who've already figured out exactly what was written in the video, and my guess is that it will give at least a bit more insight into the upcoming season.

Henry Cavill and the rest of the (incredibly expansive) cast for The Witcher Season 2 will be back on Netflix at some point in the (hopefully) near-ish future. Until then, see what you can watch right now with our guide to 2021 summer TV premieres.
