The Morning Show Season 2 Premieres September 2021 on Apple TV+

The Morning Show returns to Apple TV+ on Friday, September 17, 2021. The first season of The Morning Show premiered on November 1, 2019, making the Season 2 premiere date almost two years after the original season’s premiere.

The late summer/early fall premiere of The Morning Show Season 2 makes sense because it’ll give the series an early advantage on the new and returning fall series. It also still falls in the 2021 summer TV schedule range, so it may benefit from the summer TV audiences who haven’t completely immersed themselves into their regular fall TV schedule yet. Either way, it’s a series that has built even more buzz over its hiatus, so it should perform well for Apple TV+, especially because of the star power of Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, and others.

Steve Carell on The Morning Show

Most Of The Morning Show’s Main Cast, Including Steve Carell, Will Return For Season 2

Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Billy Crudup will all return to The Morning Show Season 2. According to Deadline, Steve Carell, who originally only signed a one-year deal for The Morning Show, will also be back. Carell’s character, Mitch, was an important part of the first season, so it’ll be interesting to see how the writers integrate him into season 2.

The only main character from The Morning Show Season 1 who will not be returning is Gugu Mbatha-Raw, because of the way her Season 1 storyline concluded. Mark Duplass, Néstor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar, Tom Irwin, and Marcia Gay Harden will all be returning for The Morning Show Season 2.

Reese Witherspoon and Hasan Minhaj in The Morning Show

The Morning Show Season 2 Adds Many New Faces, Including Julianna Margulies And Hasan Minhaj

Along with the familiar faces, The Morning Show Season 2 has plenty of new characters to love or loathe. Hasan Minhaj will have a recurring role as Eric Nomani. He’ll be a new member of the Morning Show team. We see a little glimpse of him in The Morning Show Season 2 teaser, and it seems like he may be one of the new co-hosts.

Julianna Margulies plays Laura Peterson, a UBA news anchor. We also see a glimpse of her role in Season 2 in the teaser, and it appears that she interviews Alex (Aniston) for a major piece on her time working on the Morning Show. Holland Taylor plays Cybil Richards. She’s described as a “savvy chairwoman” who works on the UBA board. Taylor is best known for her work on The Practice, Two and a Half Men, and Mr. Mercedes.

Greta Lee and Ruairi O’Connor will be joining The Morning Show Season 2 as series regulars. Lee plays Stella Bak, a tech wiz who becomes part of the UBA executive team. She also runs an online media company that caters to millennials and Gen Z audiences. O’Connor plays Ty Fitzgerald, who is described as a “smart and charismatic” YouTube star. Kathy Najimy will appear as a guest on The Morning Show Season 2. Najimy is best known for her roles in Hocus Pocus, Veep, and Sister Act. Zach Braff told the Hollywood Reporter that he was also originally set to film a guest appearance on The Morning Show Season 2 but it didn’t happen because of COVID-19, though he hoped he’d still get to film it eventually. This interview was in April 2020, so we aren’t sure if he ever got to film a guest appearance.

The events of 2020 will be another important topic that’s addressed in the upcoming season of The Morning Show.

The Morning Show Season 2 trailer showed a quick image of a bunch of people wearing masks. In an interview with Deadline, Crudup and Aniston talked about bringing pandemic related storylines into the second season. The Morning Show Season 2 Starts Where Season 1 Left Off

The Morning Show Season 1 finale ended with Alex and Bradley (Witherspoon) taking major action against the Morning Show. Finally, Alex saw the error of her ways and put her ambition aside to take a stand.

This move left everyone involved spinning and scrambling, especially Mitch and Frank (Tom Irwin). It also ended with a major reveal from Charlie (Mark Duplass). Plus, we saw the reunion of Yanko (Néstor Carbonell) and Claire (Bel Powley). Alex’s actions against the Morning Show will definitely be a major catalyst for The Morning Show Season 2.
