Monica and Chandler in Friends.

Friends was an absolute phenomenon of a show. Not only did it break records and create huge stars, but it’s also still popular to this day, with a brand new Friends reunion special streaming right now on HBO Max. While we all know who Ross and Rachel were from the iconic sitcom, I think it’s time we acknowledged the best couple on Friends – and that is Monica and Chandler.

Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry brought an irreplaceable charm to the couple, a beautiful representation on television of what it’s like to go from friends to lovers. But with ten seasons of material to work with, there are so many cute moments between these two that deserve praise. Here are the best adorable moments in Friends between Chandler and Monica.

Chandler and Monica in "The One That Could Have Been" in Friends.

When Chandler And Monica Still End Up Together In An Alternate Universe (The One That Could Have Been - Season 6)

One of the most ridiculous episodes of Friends in my opinion was back in Season 6 when we witnessed “The One That Could Have Been,” an episode that went over basically anything that could have happened among the group in an alternate universe. This includes Ross and his ex-wife, Carol, still being together, or Rachel possibly sleeping with Joey, however, one of the cutest moments was of Chandler and Monica.

At this point in the series, the two are already together, but in this alternate timeline, they still end up becoming a couple, despite Monica still being overweight like her past self, and Chandler being an even bigger nerd than he is now. It shows that no matter what, the love they have for each other is strong enough to last even in an alternate timeline. Now that is love.

When Chandler And Monica Make A Baby/Marriage Pact (The One With The Birth - Season 1)

One of the funnier moments of the penultimate episode of Season 1 of Friends, “The One With the Birth” is when we are introduced to Ross’ child, Ben. But while in the waiting room, Monica laments that one day, she might like to have what Ross has. Chandler then offers a marriage and baby pact, that if neither of them is taken by the time they are 40, they have a baby together.

Of course, this was way before they first get together and she thinks of it as a lowkey insult because he believes she won’t have anyone before then. But it’s always cute to see them have this Season 1 interaction on re-watches knowing what we know would happen between them in the years to come.

When Monica And Chandler Sleep Together For The First Time (The One With Ross’ Wedding - Season 4)

As probably one of the most iconic scenes of the series, we see Monica and Chandler together in bed for the first time after the rehearsal dinner of Ross’ wedding in Season 4 of Friends. In “The One With Ross’ Wedding,” Monica is devastated over how some people mistook her for Ross’ mother, and Chandler makes the comment to her while speaking, saying “are you kidding? You’re the most beautiful woman in most rooms.”

It’s a very Chandler-line, but it works, and one thing leads to another and the two end up sleeping together for the first time in London. What starts out seeming like it might just be a fling was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between the two of them.

When Monica Puts The Turkey On Her Head And Dances (The One With All The Thanksgivings - Season 5)

Season 5 of Friends was where we really got to see the relationship between Chandler and Monica blossom, and I can’t think of one of a better moments than “The One With All The Thanksgivings.” When everyone is going over what their worst Thanksgiving memory was, Rachel accidentally reveals Monica’s, saying that it was the Thanksgiving that Monica accidentally cut off Chandler’s toe because she had been trying to act alluring toward him after she slimmed down, and the plan got botched.

Monica goes to beg for his forgiveness and puts a turkey on her head to try and cheer him up, doing a funny little dance with props as well. This causes Chandler to laugh and inadvertently tell her that he loves her – a moment he quickly and nervously denies, but it was a moment that defines their relationship.

Chandler and Monica in "The One Where Everybody Finds Out" when they admit they love each other on Friends.

When Chandler Admits He Loves Monica (The One Where Everybody Finds Out - Season 5)

It was only a couple of episodes later, in “The One Where Everybody Finds Out,” that we actually hear a declaration of love from the two of them in Friends. In this episode, Phoebe and Rachel, who have already figured out Monica and Chandler’s secret relationship, devise a plan to get Chandler to reveal it, and the couple themselves know they know, so they devise a plan as well to mess with them.

Chandler, however, cracks under the pressure and admits to everyone that he loves Monica – for real, this time. Monica comes out a second later and admits she loves him as well, sealing it with a kiss, to the happy delight and surprise of their friends, who thought it was just a fling of some sorts.

When Chandler and Monica proposed to each other on Friends.

When Chandler And Monica Propose To Each Other (The One With The Proposal - Season 6)

I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Monica and Chandler had some rocky pathways to actually getting down on one knee in Friends to propose to each other, from Chandler trying to make it a real surprise and show no interest in marriage, to Monica’s former flame Richard showing up. However, by the end of “The One With The Proposal” in Season 6, they finally get down on one knee – both of them.

Monica goes to propose to Chandler first, in their apartment that is lit up with candles all around, but when she grows too emotional to continue, Chandler gets down on one knee as well, holding her hands and asking her to marry him, which she tearfully says yes to. It’s a beautiful moment in their relationship – and honestly sets the bar high for all proposals. How can you get more romantic than that?

When Chandler And Monica Get Married (The One With Monica And Chandler’s Wedding - Season 7)

And now, we move from the proposal to their actual wedding in Friends. Season 7 was filled with all the plans that lead up to the wedding, showing the prep and the stresses that Monica faced on a regular basis. But “The One With Monica And Chandler’s Wedding” makes all of that stress worth it, where we finally get to see them marry.

It’s a two-part season finale, one that has plenty of twists and turns (we find out Rachel is pregnant, of all the bombs that could be dropped on the show), but nothing beats the moment when both Monica and Chandler say, “I do.”

When Monica And Chandler Adopt Their Children (The Last One - Season 10)

As our last moment on the list, that doesn’t mean it’s the least. Honestly, it’s my absolute favorite, all because of the stresses that lead up to this. In the series finale of Friends, titled “The Last One,” Monica and Chandler finally put a cap onto their long journey of starting a family. After being told it was pretty much impossible for Monica to conceive naturally, the couple turns to adoption and ends up adopting twins at the end of the series.

It’s a heartwarming moment, one that really captures all that the couple has been through, from their rough beginnings to their hard times, to the sweet moments and the comical laughs that come along with them. All of it leads to this moment, with the two of them holding their children, named Jack and Erica.

Just rewriting about them makes me want to turn back and watch Friends again. It’s a shame that the 2021 Summer TV schedule can’t include more episodes to see where the group is now – I suppose the reunion will suit me just fine, though. What is your favorite part of this iconic couple in Friends?
