Yaya DaCosta Shares Heartfelt Message With Chicago Med Fans About Exiting After Season 6

Yaya DaCosta as April on Chicago Med

For six seasons, April Sexton has served as one of the most compelling characters on the NBC drama Chicago Med, but her time at Gaffney Chicago is ending down. Actress Yaya DaCosta is leaving the series as April, and the actress has shared a heartfelt message with the show’s fans about exiting after Season 6.

Yaya DaCosta’s departure from the NBC medical drama marks the end of an era after a few departures and additions this season. The actress took to Instagram to show her appreciation to everyone involved in making the series a hit. DaCosta said:

After six amazing seasons of working with some of the most dedicated people in the business, learning wild medical jargon, growing as an actor and as a person... my time as April Sexton on Chicago Med has come to a close. I am so grateful to Dick Wolf, Peter Jankowski, showrunners Andy Schneider and Diane Frolov, our producers (and stellar directors) Michael Waxman and Michael Pressman, and the entire Wolf Entertainment team for believing in me from the show’s very inception, and for giving April wings to explore such dynamic storylines.

After thanking the production team and series writers, the Chicago Med star showed the cast and crew plenty of love. Yaya DaCosta saved the best for last as she thanked the NBC drama’s loyal viewers. DaCosta said in her final loving words to the series:

I’m going to miss everyone dearly, and of course, all of you who watch the show religiously and have also become part of the One Chicago family. With love and gratitude... farewell.

Having been a staple since Chicago Med premiered, it is sad to know Yaya DaCosta will not be returning to the series next season. To see the actress’s full departure announcement, check out her heartfelt Instagram post below:

Like many series regulars, there comes a time when an actor feels it is time to move on. That appears to be the case for Yaya DaCosta. For some actors who leave their shows, there are no more stories for their characters to tell. But this departure is even more crushing, considering April Sexton was the first true connection between the medical drama and sister series Chicago Fire.

The actress’ departure was quite a surprise for Chicago Med viewers. It was just a few days ago that news broke that Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto chose not to renew their contracts for Season 7. The co-stars decided to leave to pursue other projects.

But Chicago Med fans don’t need to worry about the star, as Yaya DaCosta is set to lead the Fox primetime soap Our Kind of People. So, viewers will see Yaya DaCosta back on the small screen again. Fortunately, fans still have a few episodes left with April before the sixth season finale airs May 26.
