After Filming Doctor Strange 2, Elizabeth Olsen Will Be Returning To TV For Next Project

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff on WandaVision (2021)

True crime fans, prepare to be enthralled! WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen is set to return to TV in a new, more murderous, way. The Avengers: Endgame actress has portrayed the Scarlet Witch in the MCU for the past several years now but is set to star in a new HBO Max limited series now that she's finished filming on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Elizabeth Olsen will star in HBO Max’s Love and Death limited series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen plays the lead role of Candy Montgomery, who was convicted in real life for the axe-murder of her best friend and neighbor Betty Gore. Montgomery rose to the status of notorious killer due to the grisly nature of her crime which took place on a Friday the 13th 30 years ago.

While Love and Death may center around Elizabeth Olsen’s violent character, Olsen is not the only big name attached to the project. David E. Kelley, a huge writer in television, is on board with the project. Many probably know Kelley for writing and developing shows like Big Little Lies, Big Sky, and The Lincoln Lawyer series. Big Little Lies star and producer Nicole Kidman is on board to produce Love and Death as well.

It’s unclear if Nicole Kidman will also be starring in the limited series, but it would definitely make sense if she is. As mentioned, she's worked with HBO in the star/producer capacity before, and she’s even taken on the double role for other networks as well, like on Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers and Netflix's The Undoing. If she does end up starring alongside Elizabeth Olsen for Love and Death, she could probably star opposite Olsen as Betty Gore.

The tale Elizabeth Olsen (and possibly Nicole Kidman) will star in is based on a couple of different written tellings of Candy Montgomery’s story. The first of these tellings is the book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs by John Bloom and Jim Atkinson. The second is actually an online 2-part monthly series on Texas Monthly, written by the same authors and titled Love & Death in Silicon Prairie.

And if you have never heard of the violence that occurred between Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore, then you're about to hear about it twofold. There's actually another limited series in the works about the same murder, titled Candy, and it's headlined by The Handmaid’s Tale star Elizabeth Moss. While Elizabeth Olsen's production is in development at HBO, this other series finds its home with Universal.

Love and Death is still in the very early stages of development, and not much else has been revealed about the project at the time. It'll probably be some time before we get an official look at Elizabeth Olsen’s version of Candy Montgomery but, in the meantime, there is plenty of the Marvel star available to stream through Disney+’s WandaVision and her other MCU appearances. We’ll be able to see her Marvel character again at the beginning of next year when her filming efforts on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness come to fruition in March.
