Slight spoilers for the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier -- “One World, One People” lie ahead.
Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced a number of new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from new (and temporary) Captain America John Walker to Flag Smasher leader Karli Morgenthau. But the character who arguably shocked audiences the most is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by the delightful Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It’s safe to say that fans weren’t expecting to see the actress show up on the show, let alone playing that particular character. Still, Marvel has been able to keep some things secret, and Louis-Dreyfus has now revealed the “stunning” way in which her role was kept under wraps.
Studios will go to great lengths to keep things a secret when it comes to high-profile projects, and Disney/Marvel Studios is no exception. Julia Louis-Dreyfus recently took to Twitter to reveal that she was covered in a “stunning” hooded cloak when she was snuck onto the set. Don’t believe her? Well, she even included a video, and you can check it out for yourself down below:
It may seem a bit simple, but a cloak is definitely an effective way to keep a person’s identity a secret. When Julia Louis-Dreyfus puts that hood on, she’s pretty much unrecognizable to any who’s not in close proximity to her. This is definitely invaluable when you have spectators trying to snap set pics from far distances. It would seem that studios like Disney have found a bit of a repellent in the form of cloaks.
Marvel Studios actually isn’t the only branch of the Disney family to use this approach. Former Mandalorian star Gina Carano, who referred to the show as the most secretive project she had ever been a part of, confirmed that the show also used cloaks and hoods to cover up any potential spoilery details. You can check out the Star Wars show and all of its surprises by streaming it on Disney+, which you can sign up for using this link.
In terms of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, you honestly have to be impressed with how the show was able to keep other things from being revealed. One of the biggest things that immediately comes to mind is Sam Wilson’s new Captain America outfit, which was finally revealed in all of its glory in the finale.
Marvel has yet to reveal specifics when it comes to the future of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, though it’s more than apparent that she’ll be a major player moving forward. And now that the actress has been revealed to be playing the role, the crew likely won’t have to take quite as many precautions with her on set.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.
