Samuel L. Jackson's Secret Invasion Series For Disney+ Just Scored A Major Game Of Thrones Star

Marvel and Disney+’s Secret Invasion has been gaining quite a bit of traction as of late. Fans were already looking forward to the Samuel L. Jackson-led series but, with the show now filling out its cast with some major names, excitement is only rising. Now, it would appear that the show is in the process of casting yet another A-list player. And this time it’s a major Game of Thrones star!

Get ready, Marvel fans, because Emilia Clarke, the Mother of Dragons herself, is reportedly in negotiations to join Secret Invasion. According to Variety, details on her intended role are being kept under wraps, which is to be expected when it comes to Marvel Studios.

While she began her career on the stage and by doing a few TV projects here and there, Emilia Clarke rose to prominence when she was cast as Daenerys Targaryen for HBO’s Game of Thrones. Clarke would be lauded for her role and, after playing it for all of the show’s eight seasons, she solidified herself as a pop culture icon. During and after the show’s run, she’s also starred in films like Terminator Genisys, Me Before You and Last Christmas.

Emilia Clarke is no stranger to the Disney family, since she’s already a member of the Star Wars family through her role as Qi'ra in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, this will mark her first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interestingly enough, she nearly entered the MCU sooner, as she was going to star in 2013’s Iron Man 3 before story changes were made.

With her casting Emilia Clarke joins a number of other Game of Thrones alums who have joined the MCU over the past few years. GoT alums like Peter Dinklage (Avengers: Infinity War), Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) have already appeared, while Kit Harington (Eternals) and Richard E. Grant (Loki) are on their way.

Secret Invasion is a loose adaptation of the 2008 Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. The story will involve the presence of a new sect of Skrulls, who have managed to infiltrate different levels of society on Earth. Emilia Clarke will join Marvel vets Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, who reprises his role as Talos from Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. She’ll also star alongside franchise newcomers Olivia Colman and Kingsley Ben-Adir, who is reported to be playing the villain.

The idea of Emilia Clarke bringing her badass skills to the MCU is definitely exciting, and she’s sure to fit right in with her co-stars. Clarke not only brings her experience with heightened storytelling, but she also manages to bring a grounded element to such projects. It’ll be fun to see what she brings to the extraterrestrial tale. Let's just hope she won't miss her signature dragons too much.
