WandaVision's Showrunner Talks Adding Evans Peters As Quicksilver And Opening Up A Can Of Worms

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in WandaVision.

WandaVision’s finale was only a few weeks ago and one of the moments that is still talked about is the shocking reveal of what appeared to be Wanda’s brother, Pietro, who originally died in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Pietro came back, but was recast... or so it seemed before the surprise finale reveal about Evan Peters' character's real identity. WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer opens up about Peters portraying the dead superhero and essentially opening up a can of worms.

For those who don’t know, Evan Peters portrayed Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in the X-Men franchise. Fans were surprised to see him show up on WandaVision, but also happy since it would mark a connection that the MCU has to the Fox side of Marvel. Jac Schaeffer told Variety that they were surprised by the reactions and theories about Quicksilver. The experience was bigger and fancier than ever expected:

I couldn’t have anticipated… I don’t know, maybe Mary Livanos and Kevin Feige are like, 'Yeah, it’s like this every time.' But I’m like, these theories are crazy! [Laughing] So it wasn’t that was not part of my thinking, and also, that’s not my department. I am lucky enough that I get to hear about the other projects and sometimes I’m involved and their conversations. I know a little bit about all the things that Lizzie’s been up to. But that’s a bigger, fancier thing, what you’re asking about.

On WandaVision, it was revealed that what seemed to be Evan Peters' Pietro Maximoff was actually actor Ralph Bohner who was possessed by Agatha Harnkess and imbued with Pietro’s super-speed, forcing him to play the role in order to discover how Wanda created the Hex. The twist came as a surprise, as many were expecting Aaron Taylor-Johnson to return as Pietro if the character were to come back.

From the very beginning, WandaVision was getting high praise from critics. While it’s unknown whether or not the series will get another season after how it ended, fans are still hopeful they’ll be getting more Evan Peters in the MCU. Pietro seemingly being recast does raise a question: is it possible that the MCU's real Pietro is still out there somewhere? Even if he’s not the same one that Wanda knew and loved? Or could we get more of Wanda’s backstory? The final episodes showed Wanda’s childhood, and what life was like when Hydra snatched her and Pietro. Getting more of an in-depth look at Wanda’s past before Age of Ultron makes fans empathize her more than ever before.

Although there’s no telling if viewers can expect more Ralph Bohner in the future, Evan Peters is still keeping busy. The American Horror Story actor was recently cast as serial killer in a new limited series, titled Monster. The series will also star Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford and Richard Jenkins. As for WandaVision, the full series so far is streaming now on Disney+.
