The Boys Just Started Filming Season 3, And The Spinoff Is Already Casting

Antony Starr and Erin Moriarty in The Boys.

The Boys debuted on Amazon to deliver a very different take on superhero TV than viewers could have previously gotten from DC or Marvel, and a spinoff is in the works following the second season in 2020. The Boys recently started filming Season 3, and now the untitled spinoff has already found two of its lead stars!

According to Deadline, Lizze Broadway has been cast as Emma and Jaz Sinclair will play Marie, two young superheroes, in the spinoff, written by The Boys executive producer Craig Rosenberg. Broadway was recently in The Rookie, The Lost Boys, American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules and Instastalker. Sinclair recently starred in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and also appeared in Easy and The Vampire Diaries.

The series was announced last summer and is set at America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes that is run by Vought International. The series will be R-rated and irreverent and will explore the lives of hormonal competitive Supes “as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the city.” The show is also described as “part college show, part Hunger Games – with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys.”

Meanwhile, filming for Season 3 of The Boys is currently underway and Eric Kripke shared the title of the season premiere late last year, “Payback,” which indicates after the explosive and gory Season 2 finale, revenge is on the way.

Although not too much is known about Season 3 and how it will or won't set up the spinoff, Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles will be starring in the upcoming season as the original superhero, Soldier Boy. Eric Kripke also announced on Twitter that he had taken fans’ dares to adapt a risqué miniseries spinoff from The Boys comic called Herogasm, in which Supes engage in a corporate-sponsored orgy on a remote island, in the sixth episode of the third season. Plans for Season 2 did change due to the COVID pandemic, but it seems not too much will be different.

Season 2 of The Boys ended on some major cliffhangers that dramatically changed both the Boys and the Seven moving forward, as well as leaving fans with plenty of questions of what to expect in the upcoming season as well as the spinoff. Season 2 also revealed more information about Soldier Boy and that he was turned into the first Supe for the Allies during World War II, and he was “killing Germans by the dozen.” Eric Kripke had said that the superhero will bring “humor, pathos, and danger.” The first superhero will more than likely cause some big problems for the Seven in Season 3.

There is no word yet on when The Boys spinoff will premiere, nor when Season 3 of the original will premiere, seeing that production just started. But fans can always relive all of the raunchy and horrific duties of the Seven with the first two seasons on Amazon.
