Disney Still Hasn't Confirmed Oscar Isaac For Marvel's Moon Knight, But Somebody Else Just Did

Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe making the jump to the small screen, Marvel Studios appears to be making an effort to give fans more varied stories that include both new and veteran characters. One of the fresh MCU faces fans will eventually meet through TV is Marc Spector a.k.a. Moon Knight. Production on the Disney+ show is steadily coming together, and Star Wars alum Oscar Isaac has been linked to the titular role. However, Disney has yet to officially confirm him for the series, as an announcement wasn’t even made during the company’s Investor Day presentation at the end of last year. Funnily enough, it appears someone else has spilled the beans on Oscar’s casting.

Moon Knight recently tapped Game of Thrones and Watchmen alum Gregory Middleton as the cinematographer for the upcoming series. Middleton then took to Instagram to confirm his hiring in a post that also mentioned Oscar Isaac:

Well the secret is out. It’s an honor to be a part of introducing a new character to the MCU #MoonKnight. Who says cinematographers worry about white costumes! ... not if they are complex characters played by an amazing performer like Oscar Isaac. Thank you director Mohamed Diab and the #mcu for inviting me aboard.

So based on Gregory Middleton’s comments, it would appear that Oscar Isaac is indeed joining the Marvel family. It’s interesting that the news wasn’t included in Marvel Studios’ long list of Investor Day reveals, but it is possible that Isaac’s inclusion wasn’t a done deal at that point. The initial reports of Oscar Isaac joining Moon Knight may have come as a bit of a surprise to some. Isaac finished up his run as Poe Dameron in Star Wars’ sequel trilogy just over a year ago and, based on comments he’s made since, it seemed as though he was taking a break from franchises. Marvel Studios must have made a strong pitch in order to land him for the role.

But admittedly, Marc Spector is a juicy role that would be difficult for any actor to turn down. The wayward son of a rabbi, Spector is a man of the world, who ends up working as a mercenary in Egypt. While there, his group is betrayed, and he is left mortally injured. Near death, he’s confronted by the moon god Khonshu, who offers to save Spector’s life if he becomes the god’s avatar on Earth. Spector agrees and later becomes Moon Knight, but he also develops multiple personalities in the process.

Oscar Isaac has more than proven that he’s a chameleon when it comes to acting, having had varied roles in films like Ex Machina, A Most Violent Year and Show Me a Hero. Moon Knight should be a prime opportunity for him to showcase his many talents. It remains to be seen when Marvel might officially break the news, and it could be some time, especially when you consider the Hailee Steinfeld/Hawkeye saga. Still, fans should feel a bit of comfort since the actor appears to be set to play the part.
