The Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer Is Finally Here, And It Was Worth The Wait

The Child in The Mandalorian Season 2 (2020)

Star Wars fans have been (im)patiently waiting for The Mandalorian Season 2, since the first season wrapped up last fall. While the wait has been long, news has been slowly arriving and, now, fans can rejoice as the first trailer for the new season has arrived. And if you’re wondering whether or not it was worth the wait, the answer is a resounding yes!

The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer has officially hit the web, and the nearly two-minute clip shows the titular antihero on a quest to return The Child (Baby Yoda) to his rightful place. And as a result of the journey the pair are now going to a number of new and exciting places. Check out the trailer for yourself down below:

Creator and showrunner Jon Favreau had previously teased that this season of The Mandalorian would be bigger in scope, and that would definitely appear to be the case. Season 1 depicted Din Djarin (Mando) mostly travelling across desert terrains, but now we see him and his small companion truly traversing the sprawling galaxy that is the Star Wars universe. The Game of Thrones-esque journey we were promised seems to have arrived in full effect.

One thing Favreau and producer, writer and director Dave Filoni appear to be doing a great job with is world-building and continuing to expand on the universe without leaning on what’s already family to fans. This is sure to keep things fresh as the show progresses. It also helps that they’ve brought in new directors like Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed to add new elements to the series.

The footage also provided some brief looks at the returning Cara Dune and Greff Karga, though Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon is notably absent in the midst of all the action. Still, the presence of Stormtroopers still gave the Imperials enough of a solid presence. We also got our first look at a mysterious cloaked figure played by Sasha Banks, who may or may not factor into the story in a major way.

Another character that we didn’t get to see in the new footage is Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano, though it would make sense that the creators would likely want to save her appearance for when the show actually airs.

But of course, it’s still hard to deny just how much we’re all drawn to The Child and its relationship with Mando. It’s unclear as to how much time has passed since the events of the first season. But it would definitely appear that the two have grown closer during their travels. And based on The Child knowing to close up its pod during ahead of that fight, it seems it now has a better understanding of Mando’s actions, which is a beautiful piece of growth.

The first trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2 did not disappoint in the slightest, and it’s honestly only going to make the wait for the 8-episode season that much harder. We’ll see what other surprises Jon Favreau and his team have in store for us when it finally hits our screens.

The Mandalorian Season 2 will start streaming on Disney+ on October 30, but you can now dive into or revisit the first season ahead of the premiere.
