MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD for the September 9 episode of The 100 on The CW, called "Blood Giant."
The 100 delivered its biggest death in the seven seasons so far in "Blood Giant," and the death came as a shock for more than one reason. Bob Morley's Bellamy Blake was shot through the heart and killed by longtime co-leader, partner, and best friend Clarke Griffin, several episodes before the series finale after he had played a relatively minor role in the whole season. Showrunner Jason Rothenberg has already confirmed that Bellamy really did die, and now Morley has said his own goodbye.
Bob Morley, who requested some time off ahead of Season 7 and had seemingly been killed off several episodes earlier before Bellamy turned up alive, took to Instagram with a message for fans and for Bellamy in the aftermath of the shocker:
Ok. Well what a wild and life changing ride it has been. I am deeply grateful to all that have been involved in this production over 7 long years. I'd like to thank the Crew, Cast, Writers, Production office, Casting, Vancouver, CW and WB. And I want to thank the FANS that have gone along this journey with all of us. I have forged memories on and off set and at conventions that will burn brightly for the rest to my life. Farewell Bellamy, it's time for the big sleep, rest easy. You are finally free.
Considering that many fans on social media have risen up in protest of Bellamy being killed by Clarke of all people, Bob Morley is certainly right that a lot of viewers went along the journey with him! His farewell to Bellamy in which he told his character that he's "finally free" definitely packs an emotional punch. Bellamy made some pretty questionable decisions over the years, but he was always concerned with the lives and welfare of others.
Bob Morley's statement that his memories from off set as well as on will "burn brightly" for the rest of his life doesn't come as a shock; he and Eliza Taylor took fans by surprise back in 2019 by announcing their marriage. Bellamy and Clarke may have never gotten together (and Bellarke shippers may have had their hopes dashed pretty brutally by Clarke being the one to pull the trigger), but the actors who brought them to life tied the knot outside of the show.
A big question now is how Bellamy's death will impact the rest of the season. Clarke was visibly upset as she made the decision to kill Bellamy, and I for one am still puzzled over why she didn't just shoot the book to stop him from handing Madi's drawings over, or at least just shoot him in the arm or leg then grab the book while he was wounded.
This was a big decision that should have heavy repercussions for The 100 to explore. After all, Clarke isn't the only character who will be upset about Bellamy's death, and I'm curious to see how the likes of Octavia and Echo will react to the fact that Clarke pulled the trigger. They're not known for dealing well with loss, although they did witness Bellamy's betrayal with their own eyes.
It's still worth noting that nobody really wanted Bellamy dead, even if they were angry that he betrayed them for the Disciples, and they don't even know the full story. They'll have to take Clarke's word for it that he had to be killed to protect Madi. Will Clarke tell the truth about Bellamy's fate while they're on the mission to rescue their friends and stop Bill Cadogan, or hide what she did until they return and they can take their eyes off the prize?
In his confirmation of Bellamy's death, showrunner Jason Rothenberg revealed that Bellamy's "life and his endless love for his people will loom large and affect everything that comes after," carrying through "to the very end of the series finale itself." Bellamy may be lost, but he won't be forgotten. We'll just have to wait and see how The 100 handles the aftermath of his death.
