The cast of Hamilton all but took over pop culture in July thanks to the release of the full show on Disney+, but some cast members have more to celebrate than Broadway this summer. Jasmine Cephas Jones, who played both Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in Lin-Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking musical, has also been nominated for an Emmy, and her fiancé/Hamilton co-star Anthony Ramos hit social media to celebrate.
How cute is that? Anthony Ramos guaranteed that Jasmine Cephas Jones' Emmy nomination didn't get buried in all the news surrounding the awards ceremony, which will be held remotely this year. He credited his former co-star and current fiancée's hard work on the project and showered her with love, all while telling people to head to her page to share their congrats.
In case you missed the big nomination news when it was announced, here's what Jasmine Cephas Jones was nominated for! The Hamilton actress is in the running for the top prize in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for her role of Tyisha in Quibi's #FreeRayshawn. She's also not the only one from the project to score a nomination. Laurence Fishburne and Stephan James are both nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama series, for their respective roles as Lt. Steve Poincy and Rayshawn.
Even though Quibi itself wasn't a streaming hit at launch in the same league as Disney+ or HBO Max, the new platform has garnered some praise for some of its programming. #FreeRayshawn is a 15-part web series about a man named Rayshawn in New Orleans who prepares to make his last stand in his apartment with his family after an altercation with police, and he turns to social media and one sympathetic lieutenant in an effort to exonerate himself.
#FreeRayshawn debuted on Quibi on April 13, not long after the new streamer itself launched. All 15 parts aired between April 13 and April 29, so it didn't run for long. Still, the project was clearly great enough for the cast to be honored at the Emmys. That said, #FreeRayshawn itself is not nominated for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.
Still, Jasmine Cephas Jones has a lot to be proud of, and Anthony Ramos is clearly already excited for her, and the Emmys won't even air until the end of September! The ceremony will be hosted remotely by Jimmy Kimmel of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Sunday, September 20 on ABC. HBO's Watchmen leads in the nominees, and this will be the first year since Game of Thrones and Veep have ended, meaning the categories that those shows regularly dominated are open for the taking.
