It's been a long time coming, but the sequel to the Psych TV movie is closer than ever. The much-anticipated follow-up to the series’ 2017 outing arrives on NBC’s Peacock the same day the streamer goes national (July 15). But is Psych 2: Lassie Come Home the beginning of a new trend and lead to Psych getting more TV movies via Peacock? Well, an executive has now weighed in.

It goes without saying that Psych will be bringing its devoted following to bear when Peacock launches next month. While the sequel has not even begun streaming, hope for a “threequel” (and beyond) is ever-present among its fanbase, affectionately known as “PsychOs.” So what is the verdict? On the topic of follow-ups, the President of Original Content, NBCUniversal Entertainment Networks and Direct-to-Consumer, Bill McGoldrick told Deadline:

The Psych movie we are very excited about; people are buzzing about being able to see it on the service. We are going to see how this movie performs but we’ve loved the collaboration, we are going to be in constant conversation with that group, and we are open to talking about more.

Talking is always a good thing, right? Bill McGoldrick did not shut down the notion of doing more Psych movies for Peacock. He and the new streamer (which has lots to look forward to) just have to see how well things go with the sequel. Unlike its predecessor TV movie, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home is arriving on Peacock instead of USA – its cable originator.

I would imagine there will be more to it than what the ratings have to say. Fans have been waiting for Psych’s TV movie sequel for a long time. Almost two years ago, in July 2018, word of the sequel happening and being delayed hit the news. The issue has actually been a good one for its cast, though.

James Roday and Dulé Hill’s schedules were too busy to begin filming towards the end of 2018. Roday’s work on A Million Little Things and Hill’s on Suits proved to be to consuming for the original date to happen. Thankfully, filming was able to commence amid an official green light, and Psych 2: Lassie Come Home is about to arrive on Peacock.

As its title suggests, Timothy Omundson’s Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter will be a more prominent presence in Psych 2. It's a welcome return for Omundson, who was only able to do a brief appearance in Psych: The Movie due to suffering a stroke near the time of filming the original TV movie. As for a sequel to the, well, sequel, time will tell on that front.

The cast was incredibly enthusiastic about re-teaming for Psych 2, so that could carry over to a potential Psych 3. Peacock sounds open to the idea of continuing the cult favorite via more TV movies. While it is not a full-blown revival, more TV movies would undoubtedly be a fantastic compromise for fans.

Stay tuned to see if more Psych movies join Peacock’s slate, which already includes that upcoming Saved by the Bell revival. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home premieres on Peacock on July 15, the same day the streaming service launches nationally. Until you can catch up with Shawn, Gus, and Lassie again, check out this summer’s schedule to pass the time.
