What Can Blue Bloods Fans Expect From Newest Character Joe Hill? Here's What The EP Says

Blue Bloods capped off its tenth season with a Reagan family revelation. As it turns out, Tom Selleck’s Frank discovered that Joe had a son nobody knew about. That is, until the unintended Season 10 finale saw Joe’s son — whose name was Joe Hill — join Frank and co. for a family dinner. With Season 11 on the way, what can Blue Bloods fans expect from Joe Hill? Executive producer Kevin Wade recently offered some insight.

Will Hochman’s Joe Hill has been working in the firearms unit of the NYPD all this time. However, he’s managed to get there without the benefit of the Reagan family name, which is renowned throughout the NYPD. How will Joe’s relationship to his newfound family factor into his work life in Blue Bloods Season 11? Here’s how Kevin Wade explained it to the cast in a Blue Bloods video:

For Joe Hill, is it best for him to have a great-grandfather and a grandfather who are police commissioners, one uncle who's a very famous NYPD detective, another who's an NYPD sergeant, and an aunt who is high up in the District Attorney's office? It would completely change how everybody he worked with looked at him and related to him. So that's really the story of the next question... We have a number of things involving this Joe Hill thing that we'd already had in motion that we will revisit in Season 11.

Yeah, that sounds pretty complicated and I’m sure Joe will start feeling that pressure soon enough. Considering that Blue Bloods Season 10 ended prematurely, the dynamic between Joe, Frank, and the rest of the Reagan family has yet to be properly explored. Thus far, Joe has really only interacted with Frank, so we’ll see how things change moving forward.

I’m not sure that Joe has wrapped his head around how his family being all cops will affect his own career, but I suppose Season 11 will delve deeper into these core relationships. Does that mean Joe will learn more about his dad from Frank? It’s definitely possible.

The Reagan family dinner scene was easily one of the best scenes from Blue Bloods Season 10. The family dinner was not only important to the show’s characters. Series star Donnie Wahlberg said that the Season 10 finale scene provided a way for the cast to catch up with each other. See? Joe Hill is literally bringing everyone together. Maybe these family dinners need to happen more often.

Blue Bloods Season 11 is slated to air on CBS at some point this fall. While no premiere date has been scheduled, it’s expected the drama will keep its Friday night time slot at 10:00 ET.
