As The Expanse Season 5 Wraps Filming, Wes Chatham Calls It 'Best Thing We Have Ever Done'

Wes Chatham as Amos Burton in The Expanse Season 4 on Amazon

That's just about a wrap for The Expanse Season 5. Filming is winding down right now, the cast has already had a wrap party, and various stars have said goodbye for now -- or maybe in some cases forever?

Fans just saw Amazon release all 10 episodes of The Expanse Season 4 in December 2019. That was the first season on Amazon after Syfy cancelled the show. The Expanse stars are happier than ever on Amazon. They teased something very special with Season 5, which should be based in large part on "Nemesis Games," the fifth book in James S. A. Corey's The Expanse novels.

Wes Chatham plays fan favorite Amos Burton on The Expanse, and he shared a touching post about Season 5. He gathered with his fellow stars representing the Rocinante crew -- Dominique Tipper as Naomi Nagata, Cas Anvar as Alex Kamal, and the smiley Steven Strait as the much-less-grin-happy James Holden.

In his Instagram post, Wes Chatham noted that showrunner Naren Shankar showed them half of Season 5 , adding that "it is hands down the best thing we have ever done. It blew me away!!!" Awesome! Check out his full post:

Wes Chatham is not the only star of The Expanse with big praise for Season 5. Dominique Tipper was excited for fans to see particular Naomi scenes in Season 4 and she's thrilled (if exhausted) by what she got to do in Season 5:

Love it! Cas Anvar shared a final day photo with the full Roci crew in hair and makeup, reflecting on the epic journey they just had together:

Keon Alexander is a newcomer to The Expanse as Marco Inaros. The Belter leader with a big connection to Naomi had a recurring role in Season 4 but will be a major presence in Season 5. Here's what the actor wrote when completing his role on the "ride" of The Expanse Season 5:

The Expanse Season 4 added a new political storyline for Shohreh Aghdashloo's Chrisjen Avasarala, to wisely make sure she still had a major role. I can't imagine going a season without her so I was thrilled to see that, and also thrilled to see the legend's stunning photos from The Expanse's wrap party:

The Expanse Season 4 combined pieces of the fourth book "Cibola Burn" with the fifth book "Nemesis Games" to make sure Sol system action stayed a major part of the storyline instead of keeping everything on Ilus. There are currently eight Expanse novels in print, with the ninth and final novel coming to end the saga later in 2020. So there's a lot of story left for the Amazon show to cover, and the showrunner said he was confident they could pull off the books' massive time jump ahead.

Having The Expanse on Amazon has added a lot of value, but even with Jeff Bezos' backing and money some things were still too expensive for Season 4. If you are feeling lost and lonely without the Roci crew in the hiatus, consider streaming these shows you might enjoy if you like The Expanse. Amazon has yet to announce a premiere date for Season 5 but it's expected in late 2020.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
