Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is poised to take its star Simu Liu’s career to the next level. Of course, another benefit of being in a Marvel film is becoming part of the MCU. Liu can look forward to crossover and collaborations galore as his character becomes more entrenched in the Marvel world. With Shang-Chi less than a week from debuting, the actor already has a future crossover in mind. The Kim’s Convenience alum is already jumping to work with one MCU star for his first Avengers collaboration.
Being part of the Marvel family means collaborating with other MCU stars across film and television. As a huge Marvel fan, Simu Liu couldn’t help but think of one star he wants to share the screen with. Of course, he wanted to get screentime with the new Captain America Anthony Mackie. The Shang-Chi star told the Associated Press about teaming up with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star:
I thought his monologue at the end of Falcon and Winter Soldier was just so fantastic, and the way that he embodies that role, and the poise, what a perfect way to wrap up the arc of the Falcon. And then what a beautiful way to begin another chapter as the new Captain America. I would hypothetically love to, potentially, perhaps, maybe, someday work with him. If that was in the cards, maybe, again, not sure, cannot confirm nor deny. I've already said too much.
Simu Liu’s idea wouldn’t be a bad one. Honestly, seeing Shang-Chi and Captain America team up against the latest Marvel baddie could reach Captain America: Civil War levels. Given Liu’s maneuvering around the subject, a team-up between him and Anthony Mackie might already be in the works. But Marvel’s CIA-level secrecy won’t be confirmed until the first trailer drops for the next Marvel movie.
At the same time, Simu Liu let out his inner nerd shine by heaping praise on Anthony Mackie’s performance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It will be nice to see what the MCU has in store for Phase Four as more inclusive characters take the forefront.
Now, Marvel is positioning stars like Simu Liu and Anthony Mackie to be the universe’s future. If current developments are any indication, the MCU will look a little different in this next phase. So, the two teaming up for a film or television series would be the right step.
Until that idea comes to fruition, Marvel fans can watch Simu Liu make his debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which arrives in theaters on Sep. 3. It is poised to be the next big Marvel film after Black Widow. It is still unknown when Captain America 4 with Anthony Mackie will begin production or find a release date.
