PSA: Angelina Jolie Is On Instagram Now And She's Taking The Platform Very Seriously

Angelina Jolie as Thena in Eternals

While some celebrities have opted to steer clear of social media, whether for privacy reasons or simply not being technologically savvy, you certainly won’t find any shortage of them on such websites, particularly when it comes to giving people peeks at their personal lives. Maleficent actress Angelina Jolie is now among the ranks of actors who are active on Instagram, but she isn’t on there to share selfies. Rather, she’s using the platform for a serious reason.

As of this writing, Angelina Jolie has two posts on her recently-launched Instagram page. The first post spotlighted how people in Afghanistan are being displaced by the Taliban, with Jolie having met Afghan refugees 20 years earlier who fled for the same reason. The actress’ second Instagram post also addressed population displacement, noting how 1% of the world’s population (approximately 82.4 million people) is displaced due to various crises that are rooted in violence. Jolie also plugged the UN Refugee Agency for those who, like her, are interested in learning more about this issue.

With 8.8 million followers on Instagram, Angelina Jolie unquestionably has a wide reach, so it’s admirable that she’s so far used the social media to inform people about important issues happening across the world. And this isn’t to say there won’t come a day when Jolie won’t share something more personal on Instagram, but for now, she’d rather use her account for activism. Considering all the humanitarian work she’s done over the last two decades, I can’t say I’m surprised she’s decided to take this approach with social media.

Besides, it’s not like Angelina Jolie’s personal life isn’t already getting a lot of attention… well, one aspect of it anyway. Although she and Brad Pitt were declared legally single back in 201, their divorce case remains ongoing, with both across having reportedly spent upwards of $1 million on the legal proceedings. Nowadays the case primarily revolves around custody of five of their six children, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight with this saga.

As for Angelina Jolie’s work in Hollywood, she most recently starred in the Warner Bros movie Those Who Wish Me Dead alongside Nicholas Hoult, Aidan Gillen and Jon Bernthal. Moviegoers can next see Jolie making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Eternals this November. Jolie appears in the Phase Four feature as Thena, a member of the eponymous group who can form any kind of weapon out of cosmic energy. Her Eternals costars include Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Brian Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani and Salma Hayek.
