Jurassic World: Dominion’s BD Wong Shares Reaction To Reuniting With Jeff Goldblum And The OG Stars

BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu in Jurassic World

When the Jurassic Park franchise was relaunched in 2015 with Jurassic World, only one familiar face from the previous movies was present: BD Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu, who had a minor role in 1993’s Jurassic Park. Having avoided the grisly fate of his counterpart from Michael Crichton’s original novel, Wong’s Wu was free to be incorporated into the World era of this film series. Having returned for 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Wong also participating in next year’s Jurassic World: Dominion, which saw him reuniting with Jeff Goldblum and some of his other Jurassic Park costars.

With nearly 30 years having passed since BD Wong first worked with Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern on the movie that kicked off this dinosaur mayhem, BD Wong told ET what it was like to reunite with the actors after all that time on Jurassic World: Dominion, which Chris Pratt once described as being like the Avengers: Endgame of the Jurassic Park franchise. As Wong put it:

That was really crazy and amazing, and I loved it. The movie’s gorgeous, and beautiful, and rather epic. I think [director] Colin Trevorrow really wanted to make a big movie to [close] out the trilogy.

Although Jeff Goldblum briefly reprised Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Dr. Henry Wu has been the main bridge between the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World eras. When we met him in Jurassic Park, he was one of the senior geneticists hired by John Hammond to recreate dinosaurs for InGen. Wu was still an integral member of InGen when Simon Masrani took over the company, but when his creation, the Indominus Rex, started wreaking havoc in Jurassic World, he and his research were flown off Isla Nublar. Then in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Wu was working for Eli Mills and had created the Indoraptor, although once again, it didn’t take long for things to go sideways. BD Wong also vocally reprised Wu for the animated Netflix series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.

While it hasn’t been revealed yet what’s in store for Dr. Henry Wu in Jurassic World: Dominion, considering the antagonistic role he played in the first two Jurassic World movies, it’s reasonable to assume he’ll fill that same position in the threequel. If that’s the case, that will undoubtedly put him at odds with Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, as they’re more likely to ideologically fall in line with World’s main protagonists, Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. On the other hand, maybe Dominion will finally see the character taking his first steps towards redemption. Either way, it’s good to hear that BD Wong enjoyed working alongside his Jurassic Park cohorts again.

Along with the aforementioned characters, Jurassic World: Dominion will also bring back Lewis Dodgson, who hired Wayne Knight’s Dennis Nedry to steal the dinosaur embryos in Jurassic Park. This time around though, Dodgson be played by Campbell Scott. Dominion will also feature the return of Daniella Pineda’s Zia Rodriguez, Justice Smith’s Franklin Webb and Isabella Sermon’s Maisie Lockwood, all of whom debuted in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as well as Omar Sy’s Barry Sembène, who was last seen in Jurassic World. The lineup of new faces includes Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise and Dimitri Thivaios.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow, who also co-wrote the script with Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World: Dominion rampages into theaters on June 10, 2022. But not to worry, Jurassic Park fans, as it’s been clarified that Dominion will not be the final film in this franchise, but rather the “start of a new era.”
