Movie fans had a ridiculous number of options for entertainment this weekend. Not only is Justin Lin's F9 filling auditoriums, but both theatrical and online platforms also released fresh options like Everardo Gout's The Forever Purge, Leigh Janiak's Fear Street Part 1: 1994, and Steven Soderbergh's No Sudden Move. All of those films found audiences during the Fourth of July holiday, but Chris Pratt is now celebrating as he is claiming that his latest blockbuster, Chris McKay's The Tomorrow War, is now the biggest streaming feature in the world.
Being an active social media user, Chris Pratt took to his Instagram page to share the news with his fans, the actor clearly celebrating Independence Day on a beach somewhere, and he is nothing short of elated in the video he shot thanking everybody for watching his new movie this weekend. Because streaming services are under no real obligation to share their audience figures with the press or the public, we can't actually say for certain how well The Tomorrow War did on Amazon Prime during its debut weekend, but clearly the folks at the streamer have shared some exciting statistics with Chris Pratt. According to his post, the film broke "all the records" during its global premiere – though it's hard to tell if that's more fact or hyperbole.
In the video, Chris Pratt speaks directly to his fans, and expresses gratitude for just how many people watched his new science-fiction blockbuster, referring to it as his "baby" and noting how proud he is that it is now out "terrorizing the world" (The Tomorrow War marks the first time that he has been credited as an executive producer on a narrative feature). Said Pratt,
Happy Fourth of July to everybody in America, and to everybody around the world I want to say to all of you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. You have helped to make Tomorrow War the number one movie in the world. I'm feeling pumped, to say the least, and filled with gratitude. The first 48 hours of global viewing for The Tomorrow War on Prime Video, it's broken all the records, and it's the number one streaming movie in the world. We really could not have done that without each and every one of you. Thank you for watching; thank you for your positive audience reactions. If you haven't had a chance to see the movie, check it out. I'm so proud of my baby, she's all grown up and terrorizing the world with hideous aliens. Based on an original screenplay by Zach Dean, The Tomorrow War tells the story of a retired military veteran (Chris Pratt) who finds himself brought back into combat under surprising and bizarre circumstances. The future is plagued by an overwhelming alien invasion, and humanity has taken to traveling back in time so that more soldiers can be recruited for the resistance against their onslaught. Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, and Edwin Hodge co-star in the film, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
