That Time Chris Pratt Hilariously Challenged Guardians Of The Galaxy Co-Star Dave Bautista To Wrestle While On Ambien

When it comes to professional wrestling, the WWE has made its presence felt in Hollywood (i.e., John Cena, The Rock and Dave Bautista). Despite Dave Bautista having been a WWE superstar, it was Guardians of the Galaxy that put him on the map, as he became a true fan-favorite in the role of intense and humorous fighter Drax. But his wresting background apparently led to a hilarious moment with co-star Chris Pratt. Recently, The Tomorrow War star recalled the time he actually challenged his Guardian of the Galaxy co-star to a wrestling match while on Ambien.

While Bautista has a WWE legacy, Chris Pratt was no slouch when it comes to wrestling. The Tomorrow War star revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden that he and his older brother would wrestle all the time. The actor even talked about admiring the WWE as a young person. But passion doesn't always equal skill. Even with his wrestling background, Chris Pratt usually knows his boundaries, but those were apparently erased when he took a sleeping aid. During the interview, the Jurassic World star spoke on the hilarious encounter with Dave Bautista that resulted:

You know Dave Bautista? There was a moment in my life where I would take sleep aids to help me fall asleep, and I don’t anymore cause of things like this. I saw him the next day. I would text people and would blackout, and I would have no idea what I’m texting on an Ambien. The next day, he comes in and says, ‘Hey, man. That text you sent last night.’ And I’m like, ’What text?’ He goes, ‘You don’t remember?’ [laughs like Bautista] So, as he walks out, I was like, ‘What did I text him?’

Of course, the fact that Dave Bautista knew before Chris Pratt did makes the exchange even more hilarious. It would seem that Pratt has since learned from his nocturnal practices, but the insanity didn’t stop with the face-to-face exchange with his co-star.

After his awkward exchange with Dave Bautista, Chris Pratt decided to look at his text messages, and that’s where the real hilarity (or nervousness) really started for him. The Tomorrow War star said to James Corden:

So, I pulled out my phone. It’s like a text like this long, and it says ‘Dave, I wanna wrestle. I wanna wrestle you. No one needs to know, but I just want to know. I think I can take you. I think I can wrestle you, bro, like collegiate rules, no elbows, no knees. I just want to feel the power.’

Given both co-stars’ physiques, it might appear to be an even match, but Chris Pratt knew Dave Bautista would wreck him in a real match. At least, Bautista knew Pratt wasn’t serious. So let this be a lesson, folks: sleeping aids and late-night texting don’t mix. We can just breathe a sigh a relief that nothing crazy happened, as Pratt and Bautista are starring in Thor: Love and Thunder and the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022 and May 5, 2023, respectively.
