How Jamie Lee Curtis Is Being Honored Ahead Of Halloween Kills

Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween Kills

The horror genre's renaissance has resulted in a number of beloved franchises returning to theaters, including Halloween. David Gordon Green's 2018 sequel was a massive success for Blumhouse, but unfortunately the sequel Halloween Kills was delayed a full year. That highly anticipated slasher will finally arrive this October, and the legendary Jamie Lee Curtis is being honored ahead of its world premiere.

Jamie Lee Curtis has had a long and successful career, which was launched largely due to the wild success of John Carpenter's 1978 original Halloween. The scream queen has reprised her role a number of times throughout the years, including her acclaimed performance in the 2018 sequel. Fans can't wait to catch up with Laurie Strode in Halloween Kills, and Curtis will be honored prior to the movie's world premiere. Namely she'll be getting the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the upcoming 78th Venice Film Festival.

This news coms to us from Deadline, and no doubt raises the stakes for Halloween Kills' highly anticipated premiere. The world premiere of Halloween Kills is expected the Venice Film Festival on September 8th ahead of its wide release a month later. In addition to premiering the highly anticipated horror flick, Jamie Lee Curtis' decades-long career is also being recognized with the coveted Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. Curtis issued an official response to this honor, which reads:

I am incredibly humbled to be honored in this way by the Venice International Film Festival. It seems impossible to me that I’ve been in this industry long enough to be receiving ‘Lifetime Achievement’ recognition, and to have it happen now, with Halloween Kills, is particularly meaningful to me. Halloween — and my partnership with Laurie Strode — launched and sustained my career, and to have these films evolve into a new franchise that is beloved by audiences around the world was, and remains, a gift. Italian Cinema has always honored and heralded the genre that gave me my career, so I couldn’t be more proud and happy to accept this award from the Venice International Film Festival on behalf of Laurie and all the courageous heroines of the world who stand tall in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles and refuse to yield.

Considering the unexpectedly long wait for Halloween Kills, this statement is sure to help buoy excitement for David Gordon Green's bloody sequel. The upcoming movie clearly means a great deal to Jamie Lee Curtis, as does her signature character Laurie Strode. As such, she's sure to give an especially compelling performance her next appearance in the Halloween franchise.

Not much is known about Halloween Kills' contents, but it appears to pick up immediately after the events of the previous film. While 2018's Halloween focused on Laurie's trauma and its affect on her family, the story will seemingly expand to include the greater town of Haddonfield and survivors from Michael's original 1978 attack. The first full trailer recently arrived, showing off the return of OG actors like Kyle Richards. Check it out below.

Can Halloween Kills get here already? While most of us will have to wait until October for the movie to finally gets its wide theatrical release, those lucky enough to attend the Venice Film Festival will be treated to Jamie Lee Curtis' latest performance as Laurie Strode. Considering her countless hit movie and TV projects, Curtis has certainly earned a Lifetime Achievement Award. Although with new projects like Borderlands coming down the line, it's clear she's not going anywhere.

Following Halloween Kills, the current trilogy of movies will come to an end with Halloween Ends. David Gordon Green and writer Danny McBride are in charge of all three installments, so it should tell one cohesive story. As such, the movie coming out in just a few months should seemingly set up some narrative threads for the next installment. We'll just have to wait and see which characters make it out alive.

Halloween Kills is currently set to arrive in theaters on October 15th. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
